Latino Community Health and Wellness VISTA
Mission and Values
The mission of the Latino Center of the Midlands is to enhance the lives of the Heartland Latino Community by supporting the education and development of our youth and adults; promoting comprehensive engagement of our families in all facets of their lives; and by fostering leadership through a variety of services and activities.
This program area has grown and evolved in recent years, adding in-home case management, nutrition, and health services to our longtime drop-in assistance services. We help people with translation and interpretation, job applications, finding legal and financial assistance, and accessing affordable health care. This program area includes Siembra Salud (growing wellness), a home-gardening program that includes nutrition and health education classes. It also includes the Strengthening Families parent-child education program and our Healthy Kids Club, a fun health-education class for children. We serve almost 1,200 people through Family & Community Well-Being each year.
