Recap: Diversity & Inclusion Happy Hour
Omaha, Neb., May 24, 2018 — On Wednesday, May 23, the Latino Center of the Midlands (LCM) held a Diversity & Inclusion Happy Hour at the Capitol District Plaza to raise money for Omaha Gives. This event marked the LCM’s sixth participation in the city-wide fundraiser. Together, they celebrated diversion, equity, and inclusion efforts that are becoming more important every single day. The happy hour encouraged diverse individuals to come together to support the Latino Center’s mission while enjoying time with new and old friends. The happy hour was a huge success and helped raise over $8,000 for the LCM and the community they serve.
The Latino Center is grateful to all who donated and supported their mission and organization during the Omaha Gives! campaign. The donations will go towards a variety of events, services, and programs, such as weekly gatherings for Joven Noble (Noble Youth); their bilingual GED, pre-GED, citizenship, and ESL classes; and to strengthen families with their Cara y Corazón (Face and Heart) program and social service assistance.
The LCM serves as a connector for families in the Omaha area looking for legal, financial, education, and wellness services. They help families and individuals navigate the education system, housing assistance, emergency medical care referrals, the citizenship process, and other systems and programs. With your help, their efforts have shown results, especially in the Pathways to Success program that works with youth in area middle schools, high schools, and at the Center. In 2017, 100% of the high school seniors who participated in our Pathways to Success chronic absentee program graduated!
