Cooking with Your Harvest: A Cultivate Wellness Summer Workshop
At Cultivate Wellness, summer is a season of connection—between the land, the community, and each other. This July, we hosted another hands-on workshop designed to deepen that connection by exploring the journey from garden to table.
With the support of our dedicated Siembra Salud interns, Cultivate Wellness families gathered at the LCM Health and Innovation Garden at the Dorothy Patach Natural Environmental Area for an afternoon of harvesting, learning, and sharing. It was the perfect time to catch up with families on how their gardens are growing and talk about creative ways to cook with their harvests at home.
Guided by our interns, families toured the garden, harvesting seasonal vegetables and herbs along the way. As they explored the garden, they learned how to spot what’s ripe, how to harvest gently, and how those fresh ingredients can be transformed into simple, nourishing meals.
To round out their harvest experience, each family also received a bag of produce from a local farmers market—filled with familiar favorites like onions, tomatoes, potatoes, and corn. These staples offered families the chance to get creative in the kitchen with ingredients they know and love, while reinforcing how accessible fresh, home-cooked meals can be!
Workshops like these reflect the heart of Cultivate Wellness: empowering families through hands-on experiences that foster confidence, connection, and creativity. When families have the chance to see where their food comes from—and how accessible healthy cooking can be—it plants the seeds for lifelong habits and stronger communities.
