From Determination to Milestones: Celebrating the Power of Persistence

Behind every milestone is a series of choices—showing up, asking for help, and moving forward even when it is not easy.

We see those choices every day in students like Cynthia and Fabiola, whose journeys show what persistence looks like over time.

For Cynthia, that work began with a change in routine.

At the start of the school year, staying engaged was a challenge. However, with support from her student advocate, Cynthia created a routine that helped improve her attendance.

As her attendance improved, she began to use her time more intentionally. During lunch and Academic Expansion, she worked through assignments and stayed on track with her classes. She also became a familiar face at Lunch and Learn sessions, where she stayed involved and engaged. Over time, her efforts began to show results.

Cynthia began completing assignments consistently and actively participating in class, which led to grade improvements. More importantly, she stayed committed to the process, even when it required extra time and focus.

Now, she is preparing to finish the school year and walk across the stage in May!

Cynthia’s progress is just one example of how consistency creates change. For others, progress begins with the decision to return and try again.

For Fabiola, that decision made all the difference. She returned to her citizenship class for a second time after life’s obstacles interrupted her progress. It was not an easy choice, but she came back with a set goal and determination.

At first, the material felt overwhelming. Memorizing the questions was challenging, and self-doubt often crept in. With encouragement from her teacher, Fabiola stayed committed and gave herself the patience and time to grow. Little by little, her confidence began to build.

She moved beyond memorization and began to understand the material in depth. This helped her respond with confidence, even when questions were worded differently. Through consistent practice and mock interviews, she grew more confident in her abilities and felt fully prepared for the test. .

Now, Fabiola talks about her test with confidence.

“The class was very productive. I now feel that I am ready!”

Cynthia and Fabiola’s journeys are different, but they reflect the same truth: milestones are built through persistence.

Graduation marks more than an ending. It reflects the persistence behind every step and the commitment it takes to follow through. That is what we celebrate.
