Siembra Nebraska: Youth Internships Making a Real Impact

We are officially one month into the Siembra Nebraska Internship program! All the interns have been off to a fantastic start! This year, we are proud to welcome 90 interns and 34 businesses across Omaha, all coming together to support the growth and success of our community’s youth.

Siembra Nebraska is more than just a summer internship—it’s a hands-on opportunity for young people to explore future career paths, gain real-world experience, and build the skills they need to lead. Whether they’re interested in healthcare, multimedia, construction, agriculture, or business, our interns are stepping into professional environments where they are supported, challenged, and inspired.

Our interns are placed into one of five branches: Siembra Carreras, Siembra Construcción, Siembra Medios, Siembra Raíces, and Siembra Salud. Each branch is tailored to offer a unique learning experience that prepares interns for their future goals.

This month, our Siembra Medios interns have been hard at work with the Latino Center’s Communications Department. They’ve been learning about photography, videography, interviewing, and graphic design—developing creative skills and confidence while sharing the stories of our community.

In the Latino Center’s Cultivate Wellness program, Siembra Salud interns are getting their hands dirty in the garden. They’re learning how to care for plants, manage pests, and support healthy growth—all while understanding the greater impact their work has on the well-being of our community. Their efforts help grow fresh, nutritious food that contributes to local wellness and food security.

From orientation at the Kroc Center to breakout sessions, networking events, and a field day at Gifford Farm, our interns have already experienced so much in just a few short weeks! As the summer continues, they’ll continue to attend professional development workshops and prepare for their final capstone presentations which will showcase everything they have learned throughout the summer..

We are incredibly proud of each intern for showing up with curiosity, dedication, and a willingness to learn. With every passing week, they are growing as leaders, teammates, and community advocates—and we are honored to walk alongside them on this journey.
