Cultivate Wellness Hosts Garden Basics Drop-In Workshop at the Latino Center Health and Innovation Garden

Cultivate Wellness recently welcomed participating families to a special drop-in workshop at the Latino Center of the Midlands’ Health and Innovation Garden, where families gathered to receive resources and hands-on guidance to help their home gardens thrive throughout the growing season.

During the event, families stopped by to pick up organic fertilizer produced by Cultivate Wellness staff and Siembra Salud interns, along with tomato cages and garden stakes to help protect their plants from critters and provide additional support as they grow.

Cultivate Wellness staff led a brief demonstration on how to properly apply the organic fertilizer, answered gardening questions, and shared practical tips to help families maintain healthy, productive gardens at home. Families also had the opportunity to explore the Health and Innovation Garden, admire the Latino Center’s garden beds, and see firsthand the techniques and crops being grown throughout the space.

The event also featured the Monarch Joint Butterfly Venture, a Cultivate Wellness partner, who shared information about the importance of pollinator gardens and the vital role pollinators play in supporting healthy ecosystems. Families were able to take home pollinator garden seed packets, giving them the opportunity to create pollinator-friendly spaces in their own homes while supporting local butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators.

By combining hands-on education, practical gardening resources, and strong community partnerships, Cultivate Wellness continues to empower families with the knowledge and tools they need to grow healthy food, strengthen environmental stewardship, and cultivate thriving home gardens.
